The Funny Thing About Dreams

Dreams are a significant driving force behind where we end up and how we are on the journey.  But the down side of dreams is that it is far too easy to get caught up in the vision and get sidetracked from the actual work.

Entrepreneurs are like that sometimes. A big part of our success is our power to dream and to make dreams realities. But other times, we can tiptoe into resistance and not follow through on some things, and so we go hide amongst our dreams.

So how do you know when you have fallen into that trap?

At first, it is hard to tell.  We can usually fool ourselves regularly without much effort.

But then, there comes a times where our deadlines, internal and externally, begin to slip. We start to make excuses to others and to ourselves.

You see, that is just it.  Excuses and Dreams are in a cosmic battle with one another.  Only one can exist at the end of the day.

Which is winning in your life right now.

Think about that.

Remembering Gratitude

Remembering Gratitude

One of the fastest ways to lose your bearings is to fall prey to the subject of today’s Mindset.

Let’s face it.  We all want to advance and have nice, new things. But how easy is it for us to lose sight of all the wonderful things we already have if we become captivated by the things that we don’t.

So how do we guard against that?

It sounds incredibly easy, and still a real challenge if you are not careful.

I have found that a daily/weekly rhythm of gratitude is most helpful.  I set aside time to think about all of this life’s blessings and how grateful I am.

I focus on the people first—my wife, our four girls, our parents that are still with us, and the parents and grandparents that are not. Then, if time, I will move on to the “things.”

It’s funny.

The more I am thankful for the people in my life, the less fascinated I am about the “things.”

So, I encourage you to DREAM BIG and build the life you want. But in so doing, remember from where you’ve come, and the things you have been entrusted with minute by minute.

Think about that.

Strength in Resolve

Strength in Resolve

Strength in Resolve

Just earlier today, I was speaking with one of my children that had been dealt a setback as part of her college experience.

Obviously, as a dad I am also devastated.  But at the same time, I am encouraging her to decide what she really wants.  If that chosen career is her true “dream job,” then I will say ‘stop at nothing and go create what you want one way or another.’

And if not, pivot and re-direct.

I speak about this from personal experience. I too have a past setback that kept me (at the time) from following my dreams.

And as I shared today with my daughter, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t shake my head a little bit and ask, “what if?”

I wish that on no one.

So for you, I encourage you to resolve where you are going and what is most important to you.

Once you do, the ups and downs of the day will have little bearing on the outcomes—only on the tactics necessary to win.

Dreams = challenges. Otherwise, everyone would already have what you desire. But the gift is in the journey called ‘hard work.’

Think about that.

Our Task in the Universe

Our Task in the Universe

Our Task in the Universe

What is our role in the universe? I often wonder what else I can do and how I can solve the problems that plague us as a people.

But honestly, I think that is a distraction.

We can think about solving the issues of the universe, but honestly, we should begin within ourselves—and encourage others to do the same.

To culmination of our combined efforts to be better people individually will have a profound impact upon us, those around us, and eventually the universe.

This brings up an interesting principle for us entrepreneurs.

We often think SO BIG that we forget that big solutions happen at the end of many smaller tasks. As a result, we think about the big, but forget to do the “do.”

Breaking anything down into simpler pieces is always an effective way to solve any task.

Even changing the universe.

Think about that.

Those Who Matter Don’t Mind

Those Who Matter Don’t Mind

Those Who Matter Don’t Mind

When I was little, there was a preacher that would jokingly say, “Oh we’ve done gone from preaching to meddling now…”

The nemesis of most entrepreneurs is this struggle to settle in and just be who you are. For many, all is too polished, too scripted, too ‘branded;’ Although an inauthentic action is nowhere near a brand.

And yet, many of us—yes….us—struggle to show up as our genuine selves.

Why is that?

I could say that it is because we are trying to create a presence about who we are for business. But truthfully, we create a persona because we are secretly unhappy with who we are in the first place.

Now, my job here is not to be the Shrink. I am here to nudge you with mindset.

The greatest advice I can give you is to strive to be you—the you that is truly you—in your business and your life.  The audience you serve or seek to serve can tell if you are putting on a façade.

You would do well to heed today’s Mindset for Today.

Think about that.
